Curriculum

The program is divided into four parts. Each part contains intensive classes, held from Monday to Friday, three hours each day.

The main modules:

Module – Introduction to the American Legal System – Prof. Adam Weber

This module is intended to provide a basic overview of the American legal system and of American law. Students will be introduced to:

1. the history and structure of the American government and the U.S. Court system;
2. the basic principles and sources of law in the common law system;
3. the analysis of cases and legal vocabulary;
4. the basics of some of the main areas of law;
5. the structure of the legal profession; and
6. the structure of legal education and some strategies for succeeding in law school courses.

Module - International Compliance– Ph.D. Oskar Filipowski

1. Compliance Foundations
2. Key compliance roots and major compliance standards in the USA (FCPA, DOJ Guidelines) and Europe (SAPIN II, UK Bribery Act).
3. Whistleblowing
4. Comparative analysis of whistleblowing systems in the US and EU.
5. Designing an effective global whistleblowing system.
6. Third-Party Due Diligence
7. Commonalities and differences in US and EU requirements.
8. State Authority Controls
9. Why US authorities are more efficient than their European counterparts.
10. Internal Investigations
11. Best practices for conducting investigations and key considerations on US and EU soil.
12. Compliance Clauses in Contracts
13. Their role and practical implications under US and EU law.

Module Overview

This course provides a comprehensive overview of the most common compliance topics. The aim is to equip participants with an understanding of how US and EU legal concepts are applied globally and their practical implications. By the end of the course, participants will be able to identify and leverage the regulatory differences between US and EU compliance systems in practical scenarios.

The course will be delivered in the form of lectures combined with practical exercises and case-solving activities throughout the day.

Module - Introduction to Business Organizations – Agnieszka Cenzartowicz, LL.M.

This module provides the legal framework for creating, managing, and operating business entities in the United States. It governs the rights, responsibilities, and relationships between owners, stakeholders, employees, and regulatory bodies. This legal structure ensures that businesses operate efficiently, transparently, and in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Lecturers

Prof. Adam Weber

Adam Weber is an associate dean at Chicago-Kent College of Law. He is best known for his prominent role as a Trial Attorney at the Office of the Prosecutor for the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, a special court established to try those responsible for serious violations of humanitarian law committed in the Balkans. At the ICTY he prosecuted cases involving senior political, police, and military officials, and brought justice for the victims of mass atrocity crimes. In his final case, Prof. Weber helped secure the conviction of General Ratko Mladić, the highest-ranking officer prosecuted at the tribunal. He used to work as an assistant state’s attorney in Chicago, where he prosecuted defendants for crimes such as murder, sexual violence, and drug trafficking. He has served as a legal expert for international organizations engaged in protecting human rights, upholding the rule of law, and fighting terrorism. He has provided his expertise to train lawyers from across the world and help strengthen international and domestic judiciaries and prosecutorial offices in Eastern Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

Ph.D. Oskar Filipowski 

Compliance Officer, legal counsel, advisor, and implementation specialist with a PhD in legal sciences.

For over a decade, he has led compliance departments in global companies in the mining and pharmaceutical sectors. Winner of the Compliance Officer of the Year award in 2020. He specializes in implementing and maintaining compliance management systems and advising on competition law. A strong advocate of a risk-based approach, he is passionate about new technologies and lean management practices.

In his spare time, he is a speaker at compliance conferences and a lecturer in commercial and academic compliance courses.

Agnieszka Cenzartowicz, LL.M.

Polish lawyer specializing in international law, compliance, and new technologies. She is a Senior Partner at SWC Group sp. z o.o. in Warsaw, where she advises on legal issues related to data protection, technology law, and regulatory compliance. A former Fulbright scholar, she also conducts training and lectures for various schools and organizations, sharing her expertise in these fields.

Aga is a frequent speaker at conferences and industry events, sharing insights on legal challenges in emerging technologies, compliance strategies, and regulatory trends. Her work focuses on providing practical solutions for businesses navigating the complexities of technology law.
